What I Miss About High School (Part 2)

West Rowan

See my first post on this here

2.  The fun times we had.

The second biggest thing I miss about high school was the fun that we had.

I remember…

  • Watching people sling mortar on the wall in masonry class (I was always too chicken to do it myself).
  • Taking my shirt off in Mrs. Hicks’ class while she turned around to write on the board and me putting it back on before she turned around (I was so hyper I couldn’t stand to sit still).
  • The football games were awesome to go to!  I never watched them because I was hanging out with the great people of West Rowan (miss you guys like crazy!).
  • The times at DJs, Christo’s, Pizza Hut, and other places we went after the football games.
  • Our basketball team winning the State Tournament in 1997!  The roof was on fire!  We yelled and screamed and celebrated for 2 hours outside of the Dean Dome!  Scooter Sherrill getting the MVP award as a freshman was awesome!  I vote Bam Bam, Vslice, Clint, and Welby too!
  • The pep rally before the basketball State finals!  Every guy on our team dunked the mini balls except Yost.  He could dunk.  He was just being modest.
  • The hang out times and parties at class mates homes for us just being together.  Neat times!
  • TPing houses like crazy with Chad, Harry, Tapley, and Doug!
  • Senior Day.  It was great getting together before the ceremony!
  • The times in wrestling, cross-country, and track practice.
  • The fun times in the hallways goofing off.
  • The great time we had in Shoaf’s Spanish class.
  • The guys calling me “Special Ed” in weightlifting class.

Great times in High School.  I would do it again if I could!

What I Miss About High School (Part 1)

West Rowan

I had my 10 year high school reunion this past summer.  It was so great seeing every one!

May take me several posts, but this is what I miss about high school.

1.  Doing life together with friends.

I miss the many different personalaties and kinds of people that I got to see every day in class, in the hallway, hanging out after school, at sports practice, around town, etc.  I miss:

  • Hearing Tommy Ellis, Matt Welborn, Todd Rupard, Donald Rogers, Andy McNeely, and James Rogers saying something totally hilarious.
  • Eric Barber and I acting like we are each other’s opposite skin color and me calling him a honkey.
  • Not knowing what Shanika Luckey is gonna say next.
  • The fresh trend Lavar Guy or Jerame Jones was going to start that week.
  • The crazy story Matt Smith was going to tell about what happened on the tomato farm.
  • The energy of Marie Dry.
  • Chad Graham and I cracking up in Shoaf’s Spanish class.
  • Matt Millspaugh, Andy Wing, and I praying together during the lunch hour.
  • Harry Welch and I posing in sports bras.
  • Dale Ramsue wore a dress at my graduation party.  He also benched 235 pounds our Jr. year when he only weighed 120 pounds!
  • David Bumgarner, Danny Shaw, and Bryon Bates doing anything for a dare.
  • JD Lefler’s passion for Michael Bolton’s music.
  • The forward and progressive thinking of Daryl McEwen, Richard Idalski, Chris Johnson, Wojtek Dyszkiewiecz, Bartek Dyszkiewiecz, and Dean DeVoe.
  • TPing Brian Hickey and Vicki Padgett’s house (and about 10 others as well).
  • Justin Hall and I getting on each other about our crazy ideas.
  • Autumn Heilig and Amanda Fleming keeping us straight when we got out of hand in class.
  • The slick atmosphere Brian Rogers and Jason Sommers provided by their entrance to the room.
  • The crazy martial arts of Chris Keel.
  • The fun of planning things with Jerame Jones, Mandi Heilig, Mindy Byrd, Stacey Byrd, and Jason Nelson.
  • The smoothness and suaveness of Brandon Ridenhour.
  • The way that Bam Bam reverse jammed on the court in the games.
  • How street smart Shores was as young as high school.
  • How Christy Sheets, Kelly Pruitt, Julie Shulenburger, Dodi Saylor, Misti Gulledge, Richelle Ryder, Autumn Livengood, Jenny Gardner, and Heather Moss were so encouraging to people when they were having bad days.

There are so many things I appreciate about the Class of 1997 at West Rowan that I did not before.  I hope to be able to do life again with you guys someday.

More later…
